Susan G Komen Pittsburgh Race for the Cure
Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure and launched the global breast cancer movement. Today, Komen for the Cure is the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. Thanks to events like the Komen Race for the Cure, we have invested nearly $1.5 billion to fulfill our promise, becoming the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.
Cell Phones for Soldiers needs to collect 50,000+ phones each month to reach it’s goal of 12 million minutes for our soldiers. Cell Phones for Soldiers sells old phones to ReCellular and then uses the money to purchase prepaid calling cards for U.S. troops stationed overseas. As a drop off location, you’ll find a labeled box in each of our buildings. Read more at www.cellphonesforsoldiers.com.
Toys for Tots
The mission of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program, www.toysfortots.org, is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as gifts during the holiday season to needy children in the local community. As an official drop-off location, you’ll find boxes for toys in each of our showrooms.
Candlelighters
In 2009 Danielle Cycak and her mom, Cricket, introduced us to Candlelighters, http://candlelighterswpa.org/, last year. This non-profit organization is run by volunteers and helps needy families in our area who have children with cancer. Year round, Candlelighters supplies families with basic needs, small and large - from clothing to refridgerators. Each year they throw a holiday party for the entire family of a child with cancer. Every child, siblings included, and parent receives gifts - toys and games for the children, giftcards for groceries and gas for the adults. Contact DanielleCycak@courtesypa.com, (724)863-0600, for volunteer and donation information or to let her know about a family in need of support.
The Matthew P Fischerkeller Memorial Fund
Along with the yearly golf outing, a donation can be made online, www.mpfmemorialfund.com, to support the Fischerkeller family’s efforts to support the Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital Heart Center in researching congenital heart disease causes and treatments.
